Unconfined Compression Test

The unconfined compression test of soil is a uniaxial compression test in which the test specimen is provided with no lateral support while undergoing vertical compression. The test measures the unconfined compression strength of a cylinder of cohesive or semi cohesive soil and indirectly shearing strength. The shearing strength of the  soil is generally taken to be one half of the unconfined compression strength. The test is normally performed on an undisturbed sample with its natural moisture content. It may also be performed on remoulded samples to evaluate the consequences of disturbances and remoulding.

“LYNX” Unconfined Compression Test Apparatus is normally useful in soil mechanics laboratories. The unconfined compression test is the simplest and quickest method for evaluation of the shear strength of cohesive soil in the laboratory or in the field. The results of the test are widely used in ascertaining the relative consistency and  sensitivity for estimating the ultimate bearing capacity. LM17201 : LIGHT WEIGHT AUTOGRAPHIC UNCON FINED COMPRESSION TEST APPARATUS (SPRING TYPE).

 

Conforms to IS : 2720 (Part –10)
Can test samples of 38 mm. diameter. The unit comprises of :
A load frame, hand operated.
A pair of plain platens for 38 mm.  diameter specimen.
A set of  four calibrated  springs with  a rating of 0.175 kg., 0.44 kg., 0.88 kg. and 1.75 kg./mm.
A transparent mask calibrated for 38 mm. diameter specimen.
A pack of 50 charts for recording the stress/speed curve.
Supplied in a wooden carrying case.

APPARATUS  (PROVING  RING  TYPE)

Conforms to IS : 2720 (Part-10)
The apparatus consists of a load frame of 50 kN capacity, hand operated, similar to LM17102. The loading system consists of a hand operated screw jack with a detachable handle. The lower platen is moved up of applying load. The top cross head is adjustable and carries a hexagonal adaptor for taking standard proving ring. A strain dial gauge bracket is provided and fitted to one of the pillars. The instrument is supplied with a set of 100 mm. diameter upper and lower plain platens. The lower platten will have groves for proper centering, but supplied without proving ring and dial gauge.
